“Students are not things to be molded, but are people to be unfolded." - Jess Lair
Dear parents and students, welcome to our class newsletter. We hope this update finds you all healthy, happy and ready to learn. We would like to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made in class so far, and also share some interesting topics that shall interest you. We will be sharing our Class Newsletter Blog with you after every 8 lessons of your program.
From updates on our latest projects and lessons to showing some precious moments of the class, we aim to keep you informed and engaged in this meaningful education progress. In this edition of the class newsletter, we will be sharing some updates and pictures from the lessons, revealing our Star Coder, introducing a special awareness day in May and the latest happenings in Telebort. Happy Reading!
In our recent lessons, our students learnt about clustering, a fascinating concept in machine learning. Clustering is a type of unsupervised learning that involves dividing a set of data into different groups based on their similarities. They also learnt to implement K-Means Clustering, one of the most popular clustering algorithms.
Regarding this, our students learnt to apply their new knowledge by working on a project called Mall Customer Segmentation, where they created a clustering model to group different customers based on selected features. The project included three levels of advanced challenges to help students apply their knowledge to more complex scenarios.
Great job in grasping these concepts while being able to implement it onto our designated projects! We're excited to see you all continuing to grow and excel in your coding abilities!
In this section, we'll be shining the spotlight on one outstanding student in our coding class - The Star Coder. Every eight lessons, we'll choose a student who has demonstrated a strong understanding of the material, shown a positive attitude, or contributed to the overall success of the class.
We are thrilled to announce our Star Coder of Program G, Saturday 10am - Oh Rui Jian! Rui Jian has shown exceptional dedication and commitment to learning programming languages and improving his coding skills. He is always eager to participate in class discussions and consistently submits the projects on-time. We’re very proud of having him and looking forward to seeing him excel!
Our goal with this section is to celebrate the effort of our students while motivating everyone to showcase incredible talents within our coding community. Congratulations to our first Star Coder, and we look forward to seeing more of you to strive for excellence!
The objective of an Awareness Day in the class newsletter is to raise awareness among our students about the importance of coding and its impact on various aspects of our daily lives. We also want to celebrate the creativity and innovation that coding brings to our society and acknowledge the contributions of those who work tirelessly to develop and advance coding technologies.
On May 23rd every year, people in the US celebrate the National Medical Coder Day. National Medical Coder Day is dedicated to celebrating the work and dedication of medical coders. Coders are committed to the analysis and classification of medical data. The information gathered by medical coders is used by companies, organizations, and even the government because it is essential to improve the healthcare management system. That’s cool, right? Perhaps some of you might be a medical coder one day? We’ll see!
In conjunction with ITU’s Girls in ICT (GICT) Day on 27th April 2023, USM collaborated with Telebort to launch CodeMaven 2.0: Girls2Code program. This is to inspire and empower young women nationwide to explore opportunities in the field of ICT from an early age. 💪🏻👧🏻
The event emphasized creative computing, such as crafting dynamic and interactive computing media using Scratch. Through the creation of animated stories, the activities sought to foster fundamental coding concepts learning. The CodeMaven 2.0 program included one virtual launch session on April 28th, 2023, followed by four online asynchronous mini coding workshops called CodeBytes from April 28th to May 1st, 2023, and one physical coding challenge named CodeJam on May 6th, 2023. With the support of students and parents, the initiative attracted 142 participants nationwide.
It’s truly a meaningful program, for us and also the participants. Stay tuned for more events to come! In the meanwhile, check out some of the exciting moments during our CodeMaven 2.0 launching day!
We proudly present to you - Telebort.io! Telebort.io is a newly-launched website by Telebort to share a series of information to students considering to take Computer Science as a major. It will also be a global-learning platform available 24/7 for self-paced learning. Other than that, feel free to spot some interesting events that we will post on this website in the future! It might be collaboration events or our own information-sharing sessions. Don’t miss out on these opportunities!
