"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." - Martin Luther King Jr.

In Lesson 11, our students were introduced to the concept of API (Application Programming Interface). An API is a set of programming code that acts as a mediator between two applications, enabling them to interact with each other. APIs can be used to access data and information from other applications or external software. An example of API is how the Google Maps API is used to customize and display maps.
To better understand the concept, the students completed Mini Project 4: Weather App. They used the weather API to fetch weather data for a selected city in a new SvelteKit project. Students also revised their API concept and completed Mini Project 5: Steam Game Searcher. This project involved fetching all available game data from Steam, a game purchasing platform, to list on the website using the game API in a SvelteKit project. The students showed a keen interest in this topic and actively participated in discussions with instructors.
Furthermore, our students also learnt about Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) and Google's web and mobile application development platform called Firebase, which offers more than 19 services and has over 1.5 million applications using it. During the lesson, the instructor also emphasized that API keys should be kept private for security purposes. Remember that!
We’re glad to see our students being engaged in learning new concepts. Great job in grasping these concepts while being able to implement it onto our designated projects! We're excited to see you all continuing to grow and excel in your coding abilities!
In this section, we'll be shining the spotlight on one outstanding student in our coding class - The Star Coder. The student chosen is a student who has demonstrated a strong understanding of the material, shown a positive attitude, or contributed to the overall success of the class.

National Medical Coder Day
On May 23rd every year, people in the US celebrate the National Medical Coder Day. National Medical Coder Day is dedicated to celebrating the work and dedication of medical coders. Coders are committed to the analysis and classification of medical data. The information gathered by medical coders is used by companies, organizations, and even the government because it is essential to improve the healthcare management system. That’s cool, right? Perhaps some of you might be a medical coder one day? We’ll see!
